What “no account” means
Many habit apps ask you to sign up before you can add your first habit. That account usually exists so your data can live on a server, for sync, backups or a social feed. Vane has none of that. You open the app and it goes straight to today.
There is no sign-up, no email address, no password and no cloud. Your daily habits, their colors and schedules, and your completion history are stored in the app on your device. There is nothing to sync and nothing to upload. The app on your phone is the whole product.
Why it matters for privacy
Habit lists are personal. They can say a lot about your health, your sleep, your skincare or what you are trying to change. When that list never leaves your device, there is no profile on a server that could leak or be lost.
- No account. No email or password is tied to your habits.
- Habit names are never sent. What you track stays between you and your phone.
- Usage statistics are optional. They are off by default and only switched on by you, in onboarding or in Settings.
- Reminders are your choice. Notifications need your permission in iOS Settings.
It works offline
Because everything lives on the device, the core of Vane works without an internet connection. You can check in on a plane, on the subway or at a cabin with no signal. Tap a habit card to mark it done or add one more count. Your streaks and weekly stats come from the same local history.
No subscription, no ads
Vane is free. The first version has no subscription, no in-app purchases and no ads. There is no trial to start and no payment method to add.
What you give up
Keeping everything on one device is a real tradeoff. It is worth knowing before you start.
- No sync across devices. Habits stay on the iPhone or iPad where you create them. If you use both, each keeps its own list.
- No account to restore from. Vane keeps no server copy of your habits.
- No social layer. No friends, feeds or points to farm. That is on purpose.
If you need the same habits on several devices, or want a coach or a group to see your progress, an app with an account may suit you better. If you want simple checklists for your routines that are yours alone, a local app is the calmer choice.
How Vane works
- Add a habit. Give it a name, choose one of 21 colors or pick your own, and set how many times per day it counts, from a single checkbox up to 20 repetitions.
- Choose the days it repeats. The weekday picker turns any habit into a daily habit, a weekday routine or a weekend ritual.
- Add a reminder if you want one: off, at a fixed time, or every 1 to 6 hours inside a window you set.
- Check in. Completed habits dim and cross out, so what is left stands out.
It works as a daily routine planner, a goal tracker and a checklist in one. Not sure where to start? Browse 37 ready-made habit stacks, like Morning Routine, Hydration, Deep Focus or Restful Sleep. Get Vane on the App Store.
